Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Awareness

This one day Introduction to Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) within education course is intended for people who wish to progress into a job as a SEND teacher or teaching assistant. It is a ’Hands-on’ course which offers a practical exploration of the role and responsibilities of a SEND teacher or teacher assistant.

Entry requirements

No previous experience of SEND teaching is required, however your focus should be on an intention to move into a teaching/teaching assistant role in the future. 

Course content

This introductory course will be ‘hands on’ and will cover aspects such as:

  • Dyslexia Awareness
  • Autism Awareness
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Deaf Awareness

Assessment methods

There is no formal assessment for this course. Once you have completed the course you will be given a ‘Certificate of Attendance’.

Further study and career options

On completion of the course you could move on to the University of Bedfordshire Teaching Learners with Additional Needs Level 5 Certificate.
