Plumbing Apprenticeship Level 2

This apprenticeship will provide you with the skills, knowledge and experience you will need to progress your career in the plumbing trade. You will learn to undertake a range of duties, such as the installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, safety, hot and cold water systems, sanitation and central heating. You will gain a Level 2 NVQ diploma in Plumbing & Heating, which provides all the basic domestic heating and plumbing training you need to start work in the industry and is the industry recognised qualification for domestic plumbing and heating engineers.
Entry requirements
Grade requirements: You will need a minimum of three GCSEs at grades A*-D or 9-3, including English and maths, or Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths, or equivalent.
Course content
During this apprenticeship you will study a range of topics, including:
- Building services engineering
- Environmental protection measures
- Scientific principles
- Pipework processes
- Cold water system installation and maintenance techniques
- Hot water system installation and maintenance techniques
- Central heating system installation and maintenance techniques
- Rainwater system installation and maintenance techniques
- Above ground drainage system installation and maintenance techniques
Assessment methods
You will be assessed through 10 exams, along with a portfolio of practical assessments completed in College and a portfolio of on-site work completed and assessed in the workplace.

You will gain the following qualification:
Plumbing City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Diploma
Further study and career options
Further study: On successful completion of this programme you could move on to the Plumbing & Heating Advanced Level 3 programme.
Future careers: You will be able to take a number of commercial courses to help you move into a career in the industry, including Gas Foundation, Unvented Hot Water certificate, Water Regulations Certificate and an Energy Efficiency course.
Additional information
You will be required to wear PPE boots and overalls or company issue clothing.
