Lungeing & Long Reining

During those long winter months it is useful to be able to lunge or long rein your horse. This course provides the opportunity for you to gain the knowledge and skills to enable you to carry out both procedures safely. Opportunities to practise skills under the supervision of experienced, qualified staff.

Entry requirements

Some experience of handling horses essential.

Course content

This course covers the theoretical aspects before moving on to look at use and fitting of equipment. Following demonstrations, there will be opportunities to practise and develop your lungeing and long reining skills on our experienced horses.

  • Reasons for lungeing and long reining
  • The benefits to the horse
  • Fitting equipment
  • Safety aspects
  • Correct procedures.

Further study and career options

You may wish to apply for further part-time courses in horse care.

Additional information

You will need to wear suitable clothing including stout yard boots or steel toe cap boots. A riding hat and gloves will also be required.
