Dental Intermediate (Level 2) - Working in Dental Settings

This study programme is for you if you are interested in starting your career in dental health in a customer facing role or if you are thinking of becoming a dental nurse but are not yet ready to move onto the Dental Nursing Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3. The study programme will provide you with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the dental health industry.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 3 GCSEs grades 9-3 or A* - D ideally including English and maths OR
  • Childcare or Health & Social Care Level 1 or Level 2

Course content

Subject units:

  • Principles of health and safety in dental settings
  • Principles of infection prevention and control in dentals ettings
  • Communication for effective working practice in dental settings
  • Reception and administration in dental settings
  • Principles of safeguarding in dental settings
  • Standards and principles in dental settings

English and maths:

  • If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade 4 or above we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 

Work experience: 

  • During the study programme you will spend time at a placement.

Personal development skills, study skills, employability skills and tutorials

Assessment methods

You will be assessed through a portfolio, written work and two external exams.

Qualifications

City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Working in Dental Settings

  • Level 1 Award in British Values
  • Level 2 Certificate in Health and safety

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this study programme you can progress on to our Dental Nursing Level 3 Diploma, Dental Nursing Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship or Dental Administration Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Additional information

We are the only post-16 provider locally to offer this study programme. Our team of dental professionals will arrange for you to have practical experience in a range of dental settings whilst on the study programme. A range of enhancement activities will be offered as well as work experience in dental settings.

There are additional costs of £100 to cover uniform and books. Please note: the cost is subject to change and will be discussed further at interview.

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you’re over 23 or studying a second Level 3 qualification, you will need to pay a fee. Find out more on our financial support page at www.bedford.ac.uk/finance
